CWRU Virtual Climate Action Summit

The Environmental Heroes authentic field science program for middle and high school students at Case Western Reserve University’s Gelfand STEM  Center engages these young citizen scientists in environmental advocacy.  These young people have developed a virtual Climate Action Summit scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2020, from 4:00pm-6:00pm via Zoom and invite the Girl Scouts community to join them.

Dr. Eric Schreiber, representing the Climate Reality Project, will be our keynote speaker who will share information about climate change.  These Environmental Heroes’ students will facilitate questions asked by youth and other attendees and will work to engage the audience in action steps to convince the state legislature to develop and implement a Climate Action Plan for Ohio (CAP). Thirty-two states already have some form of CAP.

The action steps include form letters to the legislature urging them to prepare a CAP, petitions signed by all attendees, and individual pledges to address climate change.  Representatives from offices of sustainability and environmental advocates from around the state will share some of their own offices’ efforts.

The voices of youth are especially important to be heard and we believe will make a difference. Registration for the event is required due to limited space. Zoom contact information will be shared with confirmed registration.

For registration and questions, contact Kathy Kwaitkowski at 216-368-5075 or e-mail: kmk21@case.edu.
