Badge Boss for Brownies! Earn your Race Car Design Challenge Badge; Facilitator comes to you!

Earn your Race Car Design Challenge Badge at your meeting with Badge Boss Angela!

Badge Boss Angela will come to your meeting, or agreed upon location and time, and lead your girls in the Race Car Design Challenge Badge. She brings unique knowledge and experience to your troop to give your girls an awesome experience.

Girls will learn how to design and test a car—how to think like an engineer.

Troop Supply List –  (to make sure Badge Boss Workshops are free, troops are asked to provide some supplies)

Materials for each race car:
• 2 or 4 (depending on length and size of cabin) wooden dowels. Alternatively, you could use
BBQ skewers, straws, or other materials to attach the wheels through the car cabin. (Note: Make sure the dowels or other wheel attachments fit in the wheels and allow wheel rotation.)
• 4 wooden wheels. Alternatively, you could bring round soda caps, CDs, or other round
materials for girls to test.
• Clay or poster putty
• Small and medium boxes (assorted sizes.) A variety of boxes give girls the opportunity to
try different materials for their car.
• Optional: Other materials for girls to use in their race car, such as paper towels, pieces of cardboard, cups, etc.

A badge sheet will be given to each girl upon completion (badges are not provided but can be purchased as the GSNEO shop or online)

Angela is willing to travel to troops in the Independence/Brecksville, Ohio area. To schedule a time to have Angela at your meeting please contact her at

PLEASE NOTE: Badge Boss/Career Expert experiences are free but Troops or individual girls may be asked to provide supplies for activities. Badge Bosses are adults who volunteer to help girls/troops earn badges! Badge Bosses choose the badge they want to offer. Career Experts share what it is like to be employed in a particular profession. Badge Bosses and Career Experts are not required to be Girl Scout members ( though some are)  or complete a criminal background check ( though some do) . Badge Bosses and Career  Experts are not responsible for supervision and therefore should not be left alone with girls. For the safety of our members, troops should maintain the appropriate child to adult ratios with their own approved volunteers. If you have questions,  please contact Candace Harmon at

If you want your troop to earn the Race Car Design Challenge badge, Angela is the person you should contact. Brownie troop 70279 had the pleasure and privilege to have Angela Salviejo conduct their March troop meeting on engineering, specifically the design of a race car as well as the testing of the car. Angela exceeded all expectations. She presented the concept of engineering to the girls at a level they could understand. Because of that, the girls were able to engage in a conversation about design/engineering with enthusiasm. They each designed/raced their own cars with recyclable products Angela provided. The girls were all smiles!!!
