Sewing Fundamentals – Two Sessions

Session One: June 30 – July 3
This 4-day series will cover the basic operation of a sewing machine and fundamental hand sewing skills for beginners. No previous sewing experience is expected. Open to participants ages 10 and older.
Participants will learn how to use a home sewing machine, learn about different types of fabrics, introductory hand sewing skills, measuring, cutting, ironing and following sewing instructions. Participants will work on various small projects including a small pillow, standard size pillowcase, and a tote bag.
Our small class sizes allow each participant plenty of hands-on experience and teacher assistance.
Sewing Machines will be provided along with all fabric and sewing supplies.
First 4-Class Session: $140

Session 2: July 7 – July 10
This 4-day series will build on the fundamentals learned in Session One.
It will be assumed that students have a basic understanding of the operation of their sewing machine and have basic hand sewing skills.
Students will learn how to read and follow a pattern, learn hand embroidery techniques, how to fuse fabrics, machine applique, garment construction and hemming. Students will work on a stuffed animal, pajama pants, and a small embroidery project.
All fabric and additional supplies will be provided. Sewing Machines will be provided.
Second 4-Class Session: $140

There is plenty of free parking. Shore Cultural Centre can be accessed via E. 222nd Street or Babbitt Road. Enter the parking lot at the back of the building and enter through Door 8 and go up the stairs. Follow the signs to the Sewing Studio.
