Kemper House offers meaningful, age-appropriate opportunities for Girl Scouts of all ages to connect with older adults living with dementia while developing skills in leadership, communication, empathy, creativity, and service. Whether girls are looking for a one-time service experience, a troop activity, or an opportunity to work toward a badge, we can help create an experience that fits their age, interests, and goals.
Girls may participate in a variety of hands-on activities, including spending time with residents through games, crafts, music and sing-alongs, sensory activities, fitness and movement programs, seasonal events, and other engaging activities. Older Girl Scouts can take on additional leadership opportunities, help facilitate activities, practice communication skills, and participate in service-learning experiences designed to build confidence, teamwork, adaptability, and empathy.
Kemper House also offers opportunities that can complement a multitude of Girl Scout badges, with activities that may connect to areas such as community service, leadership, health and wellness, communication, caring for others, creativity, and working with people of different generations. We are happy to work with troop leaders to create an experience that supports their specific badge or service goals.
One of the most valuable parts of volunteering at Kemper House is learning that connection does not always look the same for everyone. Girls will have the opportunity to discover ways to communicate and connect with people who may have different abilities, needs, and ways of expressing themselves. They will learn that small moments—a conversation, a song, a smile, helping someone participate in an activity, or simply spending time together—can make a meaningful difference.
Our goal is to create experiences where Girl Scouts are not simply volunteering, but are building relationships, developing life skills, and making a genuine difference in the lives of the residents they meet. We welcome Girl Scout troops and individuals and can work with leaders to develop an age-appropriate experience for their group.
Kemper House is open 24/7/365 and we are always available for service opportunities. The optimal time for activities is typically between 10:15 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Sunday.
Kemper House Highland Heights is located at 407 Golfview Lane, Highland Heights, OH 44143.
Kemper House Highland Heights has three separate neighborhoods within our community: two residential neighborhoods for older adults living with dementia and one Adult Day Services neighborhood that operates Monday through Friday. Depending on the opportunity and group size, activities may take place within one of the residential neighborhoods, in our Multi-Purpose Room, or in other shared spaces throughout the building.
Outdoor activities, such as gardening and nature-based projects, may take place in the courtyard areas connected to the individual neighborhoods. The location will be selected based on the activity, age group, and needs of the Girl Scout participants and residents.
Parking is free at Kemper House Highland Heights. There is a large parking lot located behind the building, as well as a limited number of parking spaces available in the front of the building.
Guests may park in either area and enter through the main entrance at the front of the building. Once inside, staff will be available to direct Girl Scout participants to the appropriate neighborhood, activity space, or meeting location.
There is no cost to participate in this opportunity. Kemper House will provide all necessary materials and supplies for the activities and experiences.
To register or learn more about this opportunity, please call Kemper House Highland Heights at (440) 461-0600 and ask to speak with Brinn. Brinn will serve as the primary coordinator and will work directly with the troop leader or group organizer to plan the experience from start to finish, including selecting an appropriate activity, coordinating scheduling, and answering any questions.
Additional caregivers, parents, and family members are encouraged, but not required, to attend. We believe this experience can be meaningful and beneficial for people of all ages, and we welcome adults who would like to participate alongside the Girl Scouts. Adults are welcome to engage in the activities, connect with residents, and experience the opportunity together with the girls.
There is no specific dress code for this opportunity. Comfortable, casual clothing appropriate for participating in hands-on activities is recommended. Closed-toe shoes are required. If a specific activity requires additional clothing or safety considerations, participants will be informed in advance.
No special materials or supplies are required. Kemper House will provide everything needed for the scheduled activity or experience. Participants are encouraged to simply bring themselves, a willingness to participate, and an open mind ready to connect with our residents!
