Understanding Body Positivity and Acceptance

I have been a therapist working with adolescents for over 30 years and I have a graduate student working with me currently. I have worked in the area of Eating disorders for the last 12 years. We would be offering a presentation including hands on activities promoting body positivity and body acceptance. In addition, the presentation would focus on building self esteem and self worth. The focus will be on loving ourselves and our bodies. For younger girls, we will have them trace their bodies and identify what each body part can do vs how it looks. With the older girls we will discuss what behaviors can lead to not loving their bodies like reassurance seeking, looking in the mirror compulsively and scrolling through social media, comparing selves to what they see on social media etc. With both groups, presenter will provide small mirrors and have them write positive affirmations about themselves on the mirrors i.e. “you are beautiful”, “You are smart and lovable etc…”
We would be happy to come to Girl Scout meetings wherever they are housed. We are located in Willoughby Hills but are willing to travel to different locations within Cuyahoga, Geauga and Lake counties. We would consider other areas, but to be determined. Availability is best at or after 5 pm and potentially a weekend but we could do earlier if we know in advance
We would provide supplies. We would like the troops to purchase the wellness patches.
